2012… and all it brings

Life – it’s the leading cause of death to New Years Resolutions. There is something about the New Year that inspires us to try to turn over a new leaf, change our habits, deal with the problems that keep us awake at night. Even as we promise ourselves that we will keep our resolution this time, many of us know that it won’t take much and one more broken resolution will be added to the compost of past plans.

Yes, it is easier to get up to walk each morning when the sun is out and your on summer holidays or to give up chocolate while  still full of Christmas glutton. But life returns to that normal pressured juggle and the daily grind sucks the breath out of each plan.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on how last year:- Did you make a New Years Resolution?  How about the year – was it what you thought it would be? Was it better or was it worse? Was it life that interrupted your resolution?
If you knew the year that was coming your way in 2011 would your resolutions and plans have been different?
If you knew now, today, at the very beginning of 2012, what resolutions and plans would you make?
Reality is that while we may think we know somethings about the coming year, we can’t totally know what to expect. Good, bad and everything in between, this year will include surprises we could never expect today.
This could be a scary thought. Or exciting. Or comforting, when we remember that God already knows what will come our way in the year ahead.
“The Lord, He is the one who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:8
2012 and all it brings is known by God. He knows each and every day of your coming year. He is already there. He will be with you every step of the way.
In a world that is becoming less predictable every day, I find this a great comfort, don’t you?

  1. Guaranteed success, that’s an interesting concept. I’d probably resolve to (a) pass my accreditation by October and (b) get fit enough to run the city to surf in <90 min.
Whatever this year brings though I know I'm in for a wild ride.
