My Messy Home

Sunday morning is the messiest time in my home

The week’s been so busy

I simply haven’t found time to clean

Between work and social my home’s one huge mess.

Monday’s magazine meander

Litters the lounge room floor.

The kitchen sink is full of dishes

From Tuesday night’s fabulous dinner party.

The dining table is still cluttered with

Work brought home to claim my Wednesday night.

Thursday night’s spoils of shopping

Still sit in the hall in their bags, unopened and forgotten.

Clothes tossed all over the bedroom floor

Where I threw them muttering

“I have nothing to wear – again!”

As I rushed to work each morning, running late again.

In the bathroom is a make-up and curler muddle

From preparing for a Friday night at a friend’s twenty-first.

By the front door is all the sports gear

From a Saturday spent supporting football.

This brings me to Sunday morning

Where the choice is cleaning or church

After a week like that my home desperately needs

Some time and attention to straighten it out.

Sunday morning is the messiest time in my heart

I’ve jammed my week so busy

I simply haven’t found time to pray or repent

Between work and social my heart’s one huge mess.

Monday’s magazines of glamour, gossip and greed

Reveal a steady diet of lust, jealousy and judgement.

The kitchen full of Tuesday’s dinner dishes

Show my laziness in green coloured grime.

Wednesday’s work project declares my pride

In putting career ahead of God’s call to prayer meeting.

Spoils of Thursday’s shopping

Shout out my covetousness, greed and envy.

Clothes tossed all over the bedroom floor

Speak of un-thankfulness and extravagance

As I complained instead of rejoice in my blessings

Lack of prayer and rest setting my day speed to “rush”.

In the bathroom Friday’s muddle of makeup and more

My vanity and insecurity clash in the small space.

By the front door Saturday’s sport gear

Testify to a day spent idolising football.

That brings me to Sunday morning

Where the choice is house cleaning or heart cleaning

After a week like that I desperately

Need time with God in church.

Just like our homes, there can be one part of our hearts that is always a mess. I encourage you to clean out that part of your heart today. It’ll be quicker than cleaning the house 😉
